The oldest Son Bro. Thomas Moses after his studies in 1993 had the vision for ministering to children in slums of Bangalore.

During 1993 most of them were uneducated, had no study opportunities in the slums and they were slaves to alcohol. Many of them died because of Tuberculosis and Cancer – and above all lacking funds.

Fathers have left their wives and children without any care and support. The children started to get addicted to the bad habit of drinking alcohol and many girls were into early pregnancy without marriage. Few children were left on streets without any help.

This situation made Bro. Thomas Moses think about these little innocent children and their beautiful lives ahead they are missing. He always quotes: I am here to “Rescue the Perishing, Care for the Dying, Jesus is Merciful and Jesus is for all”

He worked as children care taker in a Free–Methodist Orphanage for 2 years for his living after his marriage in 1994.

He had the vision but no funds to start his work. He approached his father and elders of the church and shared his burden. The church initially supported him and encouraged him to start an orphanage.

The work and project officially started from May 2nd 1998 with the registration of the Trust named as “Bethesda Ministries of India”. His wife Elizabeth joined hands with her husband to bring up children in the house first named Bethesda Children’s home.

The home for the homeless

In 1998 he took a bold step and started the orphanage by leasing an old building from Vijaykumar for INR 2 lakhs only. He had 10 children in the beginning, they fasted and prayed for their needs and it is a great testimony to share that how God has supplied their food grains, beds and other items.

Bro. Thomas and his family – wife and 5 own children lived in a small room in the building, one room later was occupied with 20 boys and the other room was occupied with 20 girls. There were 40 children in the orphanage. Since there were many teens he made use of them to have good moral life lessons. On top of the very aged building they constructed a roof with sheets (see below) and they made a hall as their room for Church activities.

Kids love their home…
